weve been going through my mother's bedding and there are some nice white. cotton counterpanes, prob from the 1920s. . But one has what looks like old coffee stains on it, though they could be anything. So far, cleaning hasn't got them out. Any ideas?

A very light solution of bleach and water, use a cotton bud or just leave to soak. It might take a while because it needs to be weak x

I had some bedding passed down to me from my grandparents and found some stubborn stains on it. I used a garment steamer on the bedding and it completely removed the stain and made the bedding look like new:-)

Oh gosh, never thought if that, how did you use it? Assumed it wouldn't wash..

Reporting back,

A friend gave me some Aldi biological tablets. I soaked it in 2 of them girls 24 hours, then washed twice with one tablet. Hey presto. Put outside to bleach further in open sir/ pseudo sun, and sister v v impressed, counterpanes as good as new. ( spent hours darning it for her..)

Thanks v v much. The bleaching for a long tine really worked.

Will remember the steam cleaner trick as well.
