Kondo question

Morning. Am very new to this so apologies if this is a stupid question or one that has been done to death.

I am almost finished the book and am eager to get going; but what do I do if something does not fill me with joy but I have no alternative at the moment?

For example I put my dressing gown on this morning and realised it does not fill me with joy. BUT I do NOT want to spend any money buying new stuff. So do I keep it because I need a dressing gown and it's the one I have or do I discard it and do without (which would be hard - it's cold in a morning); or hang on to it until someone can get me one I love as a gift???

Hi princessgenie,

I'm the same nearly finished the book and its definitely an interesting way to look at your stuff.

I would say as you use your dressing gown daily it's not clutter that you have to clear out, once you hang it up tidily each day it's serving you the purpose it requires. I'd say wait until you get a lovely new one to replace it and don't worry until then.

I am looking forward to starting a clear out but also not! I'd say a starting rule of thumb is anything you use regularly fills it's purpose so isn't on the pile for discarding.

I would say it does give you the joy of warmth! So it's a keeper.
