How much fabric conditioner do you all use?

Just wondering as I see other people say that they don't use it but have to here as very hard water and things feel rough without. I only use a capful for say a 5kg wash but the bottle suggests using a little less. My Mum done my washing for me once, I noticed her just pouring it out the bottle into the draw, my clothes stank of the stuff!

I usually use a capfull per load, a bit less if the drum is only half full.

lavendersun · 04/09/2015 16:24

I have given up using it recently. I bulk buy things like that on offer and keep them on some shelves in a barn outside.

I ran out in the house and decided not to get wet for the sake of fabric conditioner Smile. I honestly can't tell the difference so I haven't bothered - still have 2 massive bottles in the barn and I haven't bothered.

Very hard water here, I use Fairy powder and until recently Fairy FC but I probably won't bother going forward.

Tostartagain · 04/09/2015 16:28

I can notice if I haven't used it but some things I wash without like sports clothing and jeans but if I don't use it on cottons I can notice.

I don't use it. I lived in a very hard water area and have recently moved to a soft water area. I haven't noticed any difference at all in my laundry.

Nonnainglese · 04/09/2015 16:30

I don't measure it Blush but certainly use less than recommended amount; I mainly use it to reduce static.

Doilooklikeatourist · 04/09/2015 16:32

I've recently stopped using it , as I think it's making my washing machine clog up
Haven't noticed any difference in the washing itself , and the machines are no longer slimy

GlitzAndGigglesx · 04/09/2015 16:33

For a regular clothes cycle I use one capful, but for towels a cap and a half as they still feel a bit rough with just one. I live in a hard water area too

PacificDogwood · 04/09/2015 16:34

None at all.
Awful stuff.

Every1KnowsJeffHesUsuallyACunt · 04/09/2015 16:34

I don't use it. Very hard water here too and our washing isn't rough.

It is possible to use too much powder and softener. It causes a build up. That build up is what makes fabrics rough. Stripping the build up is easy. A cup of white vinegar in the softener drawer or half a cup of baking powder in with your normal powder breaks the build up down. Use less powder. Tumble dry if you can.

wowfudge · 04/09/2015 16:35

I only use conditioner as directed.

The roughness could be down to detergent residues. Try adding soda crystals to the wash detergent - they help soften the water and in turn that dissolves the detergent more efficiently. You can cut down on how much powder you use too if you add soda crystals.

wowfudge · 04/09/2015 16:36

Never use conditioner on towels - it makes them less absorbent.

trixymalixy · 04/09/2015 16:36

I didn't notice any difference when i stopped using it.

PosterEh · 04/09/2015 16:40

None

MajesticWhine · 04/09/2015 16:42

I pour it in liberally like the OP's mum Grin. I perhaps ought to try without.

Badders123 · 04/09/2015 16:43

I really notice it if I don't use it.
I use the recommended amount...a capful.

Tostartagain · 04/09/2015 17:04

I only use a tiny bit on towels but if I use none they come out like carboard, I only use a small amount of detergent too.

Have never used it.

Flisspaps · 04/09/2015 17:14

None

BabyGanoush · 04/09/2015 17:19

I only use a tiny bit, about 1/3 of recommended dose.

As I nevers used to use it, I can really notice the difference

Micah · 04/09/2015 17:20

I don't use it. I don't like the strong smell or the slimey feeling it leaves on stuff.

wineandpopcorn · 04/09/2015 17:22

I pour loads in each time, probably about thrice as much as directed Grin.

About a capfull. Comfort blue.

goldglittershitter · 04/09/2015 17:26

I use it by the gallon, literally get about 4 washes from the bottle. Love having really nice smelling clothes, towels, bedding etc. It's a poor man's aromatherapy! Grin

MouldyPeach · 04/09/2015 17:30

I'm terrible and pour it in up to the 'max' line every time. Have been ill recently so dp has taken over the washing and can definitely tell he's more stingy with it. Can't complain though but will be making up for it when I'm better and back on laundry duty. There's just something about the smell of over conditioned clothes I love - better than perfume!
