For a family of 5 please. Do I need one with a timer or just different heat settings? What size do I need? Do I need one that goes on the job too?

Just get a good sized one. Small ones don't do the trick I think. A bigger one you get some left to sling in the freezer.

Low, high and auto is all the settings I need.

Thanks. What is auto setting? Is that a timer?

I liked having one that had timings and then would switch to 'warm' when I wasn't home in time.

Agreed, the bigger the better Wink

I have a 3.5 litre this one It does enough for us, but my children are 11,7 and 6.

I did have a 6.5 litre one which I got rid of because it was too big.

The auto setting starts itself off on High, and then after so long it changes to Low.
Mine has the 3 settings on like gamerchick says, but I've only used High and Low.
Mine's 3.5 litres and that does for a family of five.

I've never used the auto on mine but I agree a timer would be handy thinking about it, especially for overnight cooking.

Don't need to spend more just to get a built in timer - buy one like you'd use for a lamp to come on in the evenings! Works perfectly so I can time the slow cooker to start so that it is finished just as I get home!
