Name labels for uniform - can I use a micro stitch?

I can't see a recent thread on this so, in light of the new technology acquired after reading the MN 'hacks/cheap things you need in your life' (micro stitch gun) I thought I'd ask if this is a good idea or if I am just being super lazy Grin

I've not opened it yet, but as the stitches are plastic I assume they will wash well, but no idea if they would come out or be itchy?

If it's a no-no, any other tips for label sewing (other than buy a thimble!). TIA.

Try stamptastic. You can order your child's name on a plastic stamper thingy and a black ink pad and use it to stamp their name on to clothes, labels, pencil cases etc. and then when it fades a bit off the clothes, just stamp it again. I use this for my daughter and it's far easier and less time consuming than stitching name labels.

I did look at that but already have labels (144!) so can't really justify buying another. I've decided I'll treat myself to a Netflix series while I do them, which is my carrot!

I just sew a straight line of machine stitching at each end of the label - looks fine and takes less than a minute per label.

I did hand sew everything in nursery/reception Wink but it didn't last.

Yes, that sounds easier admittedly lavendersun. That would be more normal at any rate.

BUT. I kind of want to play with my new toy...
Although I have a mermaid outfit to make as well, so that could be my trial run with it.

Maybe I am weird to consider it - I think you have to poke a hole through with a big needle as well, so perhaps it wouldn't work on uniform after all.

I don't know what a micro stitch gun is to be honest! Will google it.

I would think that they would be itchy if they are plastic - sort of like labels on new clothes can be.

I sometimes cut tags out because the sort of sealed bit on the edge irritates me so I am not sure I would fancy it myself.

I'll have a go on the mermaid costume this weekend and see how it goes. Imagine I'll be setting up the sewing machine however! Thanks for your replies Smile
