The fledglings try something new for June

Hello, welcome back and jump on board for June.

As the thread title say we are mixing things up a bit this month, it might work. Then again it might not. It is still a long running thread and newbies will always be welcome. Usual disclaimer still applies "Don’t let it put you off if we appear a bit cliquey, we really aren’t! Some of us have been on here for years – but all lurkers, intermittent returnees, oldies and newcomers very, very welcome"

But here is where this thread is mixing it up. No more daily links. The Big link you will need is the launch pad from here you can get the daily reminders/missions/zones etc...

The first link for the babysteps is the particularly waffly introduction to and first babystep here, through it you can get to all of the other links

Not sure this will work or the lack of daily posts will be a problem. So fingers crossed for a month of nattering and flying success...

Oh and just one more thing:

  • No perfectionism is allowed - this is harder than you would imagine and many of us on this thread struggle with this one!
  • You are never behind - just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
  • It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

Thanks DEM, it will work for me as I only ever seem to look at the links when I'm running the thread Blush.

Hello fledglings. I'm going to have another go at jumping on the flylady wagon if you don't mind Smile

Report

I'm a sometimes-flutterer joining in for June if I may Smile I had a flylady moment this week and a fresh thread for a new month seems a good place to dive back in and escape the chaos Wink

I've been putting off putting away all the clean clothes in our room for weeks, I could never find a time to do it all. I have a one year old who is in that awkward stage where I can't leave him alone in a room because he will trash it and if I take him with me he'll trash whatever I'm doing Smile But the clothes were piling up and I was losing track of which clothes were clean and what needed to be washed.

Then I remembered something - if a job's worth doing it's worth doing badly. I was letting my perfectionism take over. So I started just putting away the latest load of washing, without worrying about the rest of the pile. And if I had time after putting the load away, I'd do 2 or 3 other things. A little bite at a time. A week later, and I've found the floor again, all the clothes are either put away or sorted for washing, and I've even got a nice pile of clothes for the next charity bag that comes through the door.

Off to go empty my sink now Grin

Sorry I was a total flake during May, will be better in June. Have just come back from a short break but we all gradually went down with a bug towards the end so the house is grim and we all feel grim too. Can only get better from here though! Bring it on!

hiya

my goals for this evening are simple

wash Ds1 Blazer
put away the fruit I just bought
and wash some laundry because I've run short of underwear 'bljush

I am very pleased with myself for sending 3 texts to people I haven spoken to for a while
for getting to Ikea by two buses Shock and buying a v cheap mattress protector and some pink gingham cushions as well as lots else
going to Mass even if I was a bit late
INSISTING that ds2 went to Mass and forceably switching off NinJA Warrior despite a lot of resistance
having a nice day with dd

and well today I am counting my blessings as I seem to have a lot of ill relatives or relatives looking after ill relatives. A lot of suffering out there so it is nice to just remember the good things. GINGHAM CUSHIONS! Yay

dh currently snuggled up the kids watching Britain Got Talent or suchlike.

So the blazer calls...

Gingham cushions, Swan?

Ikea pale pink gingham cushions - I'm afraid I am too useless to be able to link to picture. I once had a party dress of pink gingham polyester when I was little.

My bed (which I seem to spend an awful lot of time in now that my bedroom is tidy) has a rather uncomfortable headboard/slats so I thought these cushions covers could be used instead on some rather too grand cushions to prop me up!

off downstairs now (my power went on the computer just as I was about to answer you)

Right, I really need to get back on the wagon this month for the sake of the house and my sanity. Everything is messy, grubby or disorganised and I'm back to feeling that I can't let anyone through the door. Some Flylady is needed to get us back on track.

Today I need to:

  • Get DD back to school
  • Some work whilst DS is asleep/stuck in front of the telly Blush
  • Resurrect morning routine
  • Tidy up - i.e. put stuff back where it belongs. Will try a Room Rescue one room at a time
  • Cat litter and bird feeders
  • Some parkrun stuff - check emails, write emails, roster
  • Menu plan
  • Letter for PTA to go to school with DS tomorrow
  • Go and play Footgolf with DS and his friend

That will do, if I only get the morning routine and tidy up done (and the foot golf :)) things will be better.

Here's to a good month everyone...

Thanks for last month Grey and for taking over the reins this month DEM. Flowers As it turns out, DD1 will indeed be going into hospital later on this month so June would have been a bit tricky for me.

Done:
Weekly food shop

To do:
Work
Book appointment with dermatologist
See DS's teacher to cancel this week's English lesson as too busy with work

Lovely sunny day here today so really not in the mood to start work, but needs must... at least it's another short week here, with Corpus Christi holiday on Thursday and school closed on Friday too.

Report
DarkEvilMoon · 01/06/2015 10:36

Well it is not sunny, but it is not raining. So that is a good place to start. Huge to do list today. Huge. So I suppose I should get up and get started.

By the power of three:
chuck a towel load on to wash
sort out the tubs to go in the unit put up yesterday
check through the bag of stationery and sort into the tub

I'm in, hello everyone, house is totally cluttered and annoying me sooo much, but I've made a start, kids room sorted yesterday and toys sent to a charity shop (something I always mean to do but never do it), I'm ordering them a new wardrobe soon so I really want to get rid of more.

We are getting our new bed in a week so I'll be doing our room this week, books need sorting and they will be going charity shop too.

To do today:
Clean clothes away
Sort books out in my room
hoover

I will have a sort of tidy house if it kills me.

DarkEvilMoon · 01/06/2015 11:23

Decided that jobs 2 and three of that power of three are best to do with ds when he gets back.

Ta da
Towel wash on
dust ds' nicknacks

to do
put ds' bookcase back together
clear desk 1
find ds' bin which has gone awol Hmm

Hi June fledglings

May has been a total fluttering disaster for me and June will be as well until this massive piece of work is finished, but I'll hang around every now and then.

The only saving grace is that the aliens have stolen DD1 (13) and replaced her with an identical-looking girl who insists on having a completely tidy living room, so she decluttered, cleaned and tidied it one day last week when DH and I were out and is keeping on top of it too! Awesome! It did become a problem this morning when I couldn't find where she had dumped DD2's flute and school shoes - found the flute in the end but not the shoes so DD2 went to school in her trainers.

Right, must press on with my statistics and writing up my Results chapter.

Thanks for running last month's thread so brilliantly, Grey, and thanks to DEM for taking over this month. Am perfectly happy with the 'no links' thread.

Have had DM staying with us since the memorial last week. Spent Saturday morning driving her round nearby villages so she could see where she might like to live. She went home this morning.

ta da

Kitchen rescue
Loaded d/w
Hoovered and mopped kitchen floor
Emptied cat litter trays, cleaned and refilled
Put rubbish out
Hoovered throughout house
Lunch

to do

Hang washing out (if it doesn't rain Hmm)
Paperwork for DS1's school (first morning with his class tomorrow)
Doublecheck I have uniform and pencil case ready for him
Home ed - Maths and handwriting (neither are DS2's favourite things, so I foresee problems ahead)

On a positive note, I have found a Maths student willing to give DS2 lessons and he's starting this week. He comes with good recommendations, so am hoping it works out.

Am feeling very unsettled and fretful still: still waiting to hear about job application, worried about DM and her plans to move here and worried about DS1 starting at his new school tomorrow (he's admitted to being nervous, which is natural, but has made me worry he'll start refusing to go again). Not to mention worries about DH's work and money. Argh!

Ok so my 2nd load of washing is on the line but it's getting very grey so it could be a mad dash outside soon.

DD2 keeps waking up because of her cough, so not getting much de cluttering done as she's on my lap.

Urgh, lost a rather long but satisfying post. So in short:

ta da
work a miracle in ds' room
tidy and hoover study
hoover lounge
1 load bedding
1 load towels
sort out scrap book stuff for ds
rescue ds' lamp shade and fit finally
clean and hoover ds' room

to do
Exercise
emails and texts (important)
30mins in my room
finish emptying car and hoover

oh dear I am not doing well this morning

felt thoroughly grumpy and demotivated because I lost the entire morning to a bloodtest (walk in clinic variety) and when I returned ds2 - like Mother Hubbard's Dog was doing entirely the wrong thing and had not got dressed or started any work (despite dh's exhortations) Why does everything grind to a halt when I am not there to spur people on? grrr

However did Kubla Khan poem with ds2 (and discovered he was a real person [never knew that - fancy]
Ds2 went to the supermarket on a walk with dh

swept kitchen floor
put some washing on
fed cats
longish walk

just done Enclosure with ds2 and made him do the textbook questions.

Staring hopelessly at ds1's room = so awful and smelly in there but I've decided to go to bed (which is where I am typing from) until 4pm instead of tackling it. At least he changed the sheets and brought all his washing down but it is piled high with school books and clutter and everytime I look at one of the textbooks my heart sinks because it is right at the bottom of the pile that means - yes he hasn't touched it for 4 months and probably thinks he has lost it Confused nor does he care more to the point...

roast chicken and potatoes for supper with spinach and bok choy

Shannara hope your job is going well
Feetheart you are always a cheerful addition to this thread Smile
Toffee why is it at this time of year when one should be feeling very happy at beautiful weather and surroundings that everything seems to compound to cause stress??? I wish the year was the other way round frankly. Very good luck with ds's first day in class (he will love it honestly he will - thrill of new will kick start him) And how exciting finding new houses for DM although I can imagine she won't feel so excited as it must be still a very ambivalent decision for her. Did she live where she lived for a very long time before?

oh I can hear rustling paper - ds2 may have actually written something Shock

Having a break before I do too much and give up for the year week Smile

Day 1 back on the fly wagon
Swished and swiped
Made the bed
2 loads of laundry washed and put away, plus some bedding in washing now
Sorted out the coats/hats/scarves/gloves/shoes in the hallway cupboard

I also hoovered the stairs and upstairs and even wiped the skirting boards in the bathroom (only because the 1 year old was 'helping'!)

Upstairs is fairly tidy now, just the playroom/junk room to do but DH can help with that as half the stuff is his. Hopefully a tidy bedroom will be the kick I need to get the rest of the house sorted. There's so much stuff it never looks tidy downstairs, even when it is.

Hope the sun comes out tomorrow!

Report
feetheart · 01/06/2015 16:49

Thanks for the lovely welcome back Swan :)

I can add my own 'Day 1 back on the fly wagon'
I have done most of my list including the Footgolf which was fun but I was rubbish. Luckily DH took an hour off work to come and play too which gave the 9 yr olds a run for their money!

Still need to:

  • S&S downstairs
  • More Room Rescues - did kitchen and living room but haven't ventured upstairs yet, may leave that until tomorrow.
  • Sort out parkrun stuff
  • Dinner for DH and DC
  • Running club so DH does bedtime :o

Not a bad start back and downstairs looks a bit better - amazing how much difference a bit of a tidy up and a hoover round makes :)

I am SOOO joining in (if you'll have me Wink). I've seen these threads before and had a look at Fly Lady, but I never needed it enough...but I do now. I think Fate must have made this thread pop up this afternoon - everything has been getting on top of me and I feel completely overwhelmed, and this morning I hit a real low. Then this afternoon I read this thread as I waited for DD (15 months) to wake from her nap so I could take her for her jabs...and instead of sitting feeling useless, I set the timer and did a blitz on the top of the dresser by the kitchen door. Ten minutes, and it transformed the kitchen/dining room - and transformed my mood too!
