The Big Declutter 2015

lemonteaplease · 09/05/2015 14:11

To put it simply...I've had enough, I have too much stuff! The rooms in my household are chaotic; piles of clothing, products, books etc!

Are there any other ladies out here who would like to join me on a year of decluttering? Smile

I should as we downsized from a 4 bed 3 reception room house 4 years ago to a 3 bed 2 reception room house and still have virtually the same amount of stuff - just can't get my head round it at the moment. Good luck!

Hi I'm in, I'm in a four bed, when we moved in two years ago I was ruthless and got rid of loads of stuff but now the house is just full of stuff and no where to put it! It doesn't help that I took my two tubs of summer clothes out of the loft washed it all only to find its all too tight (sob) so I can't see my bedroom for lovely clothes I cant wear! But don't want to put them in loft again as when I do lose weight I will have to wash them again lol!

We are redecorating to sell and I am finding it difficult to decorate because of the amount of stuff we have. I am decluttering by selling on ebay/market stalls, charity shops and passing it onto friends. The plan is to clutter, box up and put into storage anything leftover from the purge and then dress the house for sale.

It's really stressful though and I feel like shoving everything in a skip.

Dibdabs would it be easier if you sold/gave away your old summer clothes and then bought a new summer wardrobe when you're at your ideal weight? Fashions come and go so you might as well treat yourself to a new up to date summer wardrobe! Wink

Marking place as DC2 is due in September and we have too much stuff and not enough room to put it in

I'm in! We have stuff, just stuff, all over the place and it's just too much!
I am giving houseroom to things because I put them out of sight out of mind!
Today I decluttered my larder cupboards and the bit of the breakfast bar that is the dumping ground for paperwork, school stuff and somehow1 or 2 odd ( but clean) socks!!!
It's a start but I need to massively get rid of stuff!

Can I join please? I am so sick of all the clutter in my house! I find it overwhelming that there just seems to be stuff everywhere so it is about time to be ruthless and just get rid of most of it!

I'm here still! Dd is ill so not achieving much but am hoping to go through her clothes tomorrow as a starting point.

I've got rid of LOADS of stuff recently and if does make a huge difference. I no longer keep things just in case - if I haven't used them in a year in unlikely to and tbh most would cost less than £5 to replace.

I'd like to join in!

On the surface my house looks fine but I'm so sick of having toys/clothes/stuff stuffed in corners when none of it gets touched! I'm planning to do the small porch (a.k.a the might as well have been a cupboard at the back of the living room space) tomorrow which I'm dreading as I stuff things in there all the time without thinking about it! I'm also trying to get the house into a decent starter state so that I can be more organised and make it easier to keep on top of which means I'm also planning on deep cleaning each room as I go so it may take a while but it'll be worth it in the end I'm sure.

I want to join! We want to move house but the thought of taking all this stuff with me is depressing, also going to be tricky to tempt someone into buying it looking like it does. I seem to spend all day moving things from one end of the house to another.
Kids stuff, clothes; theirs and mine (I kept all the clothes I was too fat for, slimmed back into them and beyond losing nearly 8 stone) stuff that we moved in with its just clutter.
None of us are good at getting rid of stuff but we so need to!

I'd like to join too. I have taken several bag sof 'stuff' to the charity shop recently, culled dd's clothes and thrown a lot of things out too. Though we had a busy week and now dd2 has just had a tummy bug so have been stalled a littke bit.

I have a load of dvd's and games sorted for music magpie but just haven't got round to it. Two big jobs are finishing off sorting dd's room as we're moving it around and getting rid of the cot god help us. We also really need to organise the shed, and I have decided today that I need to gut my wardrobe as there are so many things I dislike. That's just the start!

I'd like to declutter too as there is stuff everywhere & not enough room for it all. I have recently got myself stressed out because I haven't been able to find things when I needed to & I have been late for things.

I find I move piles of things around & have a pile for stuff I need to eBay. Trouble is I hardly find time to eBay things & when I have put things on which I think are nice eg nice quality, excellent condition clothes they haven't sold! I find it very hard to just chuck out or even charity shop things which I spent money on & are still very decent.

What do other people do in this situation please?

I ebay / FB sell very very little. It just delayed me decluttering. Now I just donate to charity and move on.

Jemster I'm the same, I struggle to get rid of stuff and find I have piles to go to the charity shop/local Facebook page/the dump so this time I need to be ruthless and just cut my losses so I'm booking a man with a van (I don't drive) tomorrow to do a dump run next Monday and have a friend who can take stuff to the charity shop for me on Friday and that'll be that! No hanging about waiting on things selling/being collected.

DeathMetalMum · 12/05/2015 10:06

For things I want to sell I give myself a time limit. So Facebook I'll give maybe a week max and if no one wants it then it's to the charity shop - this usually gives me time to gather a bag full of things to take to the charity shop with it, as soon as the bag is full I take it to the charity shop as I pass it on the school run.

The alternative if you have a lot of things like this is to do a car boot one week and decide if it doesn't go then it goes to the charity shop on the way home.

Joining in too! I honestly think my children (9, 7, 2) need three toys each maximum and I need to bite the bullet and get rid of things. I have a tendency to keep things in case they come in useful/to up cycle in some hugely creative and profitable way.
We have very little 'hidden' storage e.g loft/shed etc. Everything we own can be seen (we do have wardrobes etc).

Yep, I'm in, I've been doing the '2015 in 2015' challenge since the beginning of the year. The goal is to declutter 2015 items! I'll see if I can find a link.

I've just sold 2 bottles of perfume for £50 that have been sat in the bathroom since Xmas!

I'm definitely up for this, have got rid of tonnes (literally!) already, but I need one final big push as I'm hopefully starting work in June but will need everything sorted in two weeks-when half term starts!

I've organised DS2s trousers- washed the stored ones in the next size up and bagged up the smaller ones, ready to go to a shop which sells the stuff for me- she takes 30% commission but it works out well as she sells all child related clutter which keeps it out of my house!

I also vacuum bagged all the clothes I have grown out of since I've been ill. I will be losing the weight now, but at least I can see exactly what fits and the clothes are sorted by size, so when I lose weight I don't have to re sort anything.

Please can I join?
To put it frankly my house is stuffed with crap!
3 kids, one partner and myself all hoarders!
Although I go through stages of being ruthless and have taken loads to the charity shop as I don't seem to get round to selling it.
I am driving myself crazy with the amount of crap we have which no-one tidies up apart from me.
Drowning in clutter-please help!
Also I dread people turning up out of the blue as the house is so messy , however I have made a concerted effort to get rid of a lot but it does weigh me down....

Will join too :) I'm kinda doing marie kondos method and it's working well but just not getting the chunks of time I feel I need to do it properly.

I used to sell stuff but right now, unless its worth more than £10, or its unlikely to find an owner in a charity shop ( eg cloth nappies) I just donate it.

Over 4000 items gone for my home since January, but still plenty to do.

Just feeding dd to sleep then I'm tackling the kitchen. Counters are forever cluttered and it's doing my head in.

I am trying to de clutter. Was on the Kondo threads but gave up at Christmas. Am trying to sort out DS's rooms at the moment. Got rid of some clothes and books but so much random bits and pieces I don't know where to start. The whole house is upside down as we re carpeted their bedrooms yesterday furniture and things all over the house. It's driving me crazy!

Report
PinkSquash · 14/05/2015 16:09

I have done nothing today towards decluttering. Blush I did re vacuum the bags in the loft and sorted some in the drawers- but they are clothes for DS2 that has been edited as much as possible
I will sort through the bureau tonight and make sure I get rid of whatever has made its way in unnecessarily.
