Black Ring on Wooden Kitchen Top from Saxa Salt?!

Hey!

I've recently started finding black rings on my wooden kitchen surface. Initially there was an embarrassingly long period of confusion in which we thought someone had burned black rings with one of the pans. But the proverbial shoe didn't fit, and after a maddening afternoon spent holding every item in our kitchen over said black marks, we identified the culprit: our Saxa salt!

The metal ring on the bottom of our salt has somehow reacted with the wood surface to create horrid black rings. Has anyone experienced this?! Does anyone know how to get rid of them?

I haven't had this from salt, but I have had bi-carb and our oven cleaner react to our wooden work surfaces in this way. Sorry but the only solution I have found is to sand the surfaces down and re oil them. Probably not what you wanted to hear!
