we have wood effect karndean through the bottom of our house - hall, loo, kitchen, little sitting room. 2 kids and a dog so it gets hoovered every day at least once, and mopped/wiped at least once every 2 days. if run a bit of wet kitchen roll over it in between times, mopping up a spill or whatever, it comes away black! and I was mortified to notice how dirty dds friends feet were after running around barefoot Blush
we take our shoes off but I never ask guests to, but tbh we have very few guests! so why is it not cleaner?! honestly I feel like I spend my life cleaning the floor, am I doing it wrong? !

Never use a citrus based cleaner with Kardean. Try almond oil (Tescos sells it) or the Kardean cleaning kit you should have got free with the fitting.

Blush

We have the exact same floor all through our downstairs. It gets hoovered most days but doesn't get mopped anywhere near as often as yours and it has never occurred to me to think about it!

So I am no help. Join me on my slatternly level, it's much less stressful!

You could try rinsing rinsing after mopping - and then drying with a towel or something to remove the water. You could be just spreading the dirt around with your mopping otherwise!

Maybe try a steam cleaner?

thanks all! what is the significance of citrus re karndean?
I normally mop with a "normal" mop then dry it with one of these vileda pad mop things. dh keeps going on about not getting it too wet?
I have wondered about a steam cleaner but I think there is an issue with the heat and the karndean adhesive?

kingthistle don't worry you should see the rest of my house Grin
I'm just slightly paranoid re the floor because of the dog, and especially after seeing that poor child's dirty feet Shock

I think you need to do the strip & repolish job - a real pita but does get results. I had karndean flooring once & used to do it once a year - basically you are putting on a new coat of polish.

That was the reason I won't have karndean again!

Their website tells you all about it:

I never put the polish on to my karndean floor as I knew it would never get stripped and repolished as its a large area and too much furniture to move. I steam clean mine a couple of times a week, I know you're not supposed to but it's the best way to get it really clean and I've done it for years.

Ime the best way to clean a floor is to get down and scrub it with a nylon brush, then dry with an old bath sheet.

It's not fun but my vinyl floor doesn't look grubby now.

I Hoover and steam mop my downstairs floors (wood flooring and tiles). Regardless how many times a week. My ds still has dirty feet, I've been wondering what I'm doing wrong??

Been pondering this far too much! maybe carpets are just as dirty but you don't see it (or get it on your feet) as it sort of sinks in? !

I think you're spot on about carpets, Missanneshirley.

The supplier who fitted my Kardean said that citrus based products strip the coating and makes it look scuffed.

Squirt and Mop Almond cleaner is lovely. Gives a great shine and smells like freshly baked biscuits. Under a fiver at Tescos.

Sorry to bring up an old post for my first message in the forum. Does anyone have some solid advice on keeping Karndean looking good, it's easy enough to clean and stuff but it just seems dull now, especially when compared to how it was when my husband and I bought it! :( Id much prefer a specific company to clean it rather than do it myself as I know stuff can go wrong? Any advice anyone?

Ignore than last post I found someone after searching for about an hour, Karnclean.couk , just spoke with someone on the phone and already have it booked it!! Was so good to actually speak to a human rather than a silly robot, they gave me 15% off as well, if anyone need they're Karndean cleaned you could probably use the code as well?
