Damp smell in cupboard

Can anyone help me please. I recently had some work done in my house and the workmen flooded my bathroom. Unfortunately this has left a smell of damp in one of the bedroom cupboards.

Ive had a heater in the cupboard to try to dry it off but it doesn't seem to be improving.

Thanks for any advice and tips

  1. Deal with the source of the damp. What caused the flood, and are you 100% sure it's been fixed? If there's still a leak or something, you need to get that sorted before you do anything.

  1. Dry it out. Heat is useful, but ventilation is more important... As much as possible. If it's very wet, you could look into hiring a dehumidifier.

  1. Clean it. Washing-up liquid and warm water might do it, but if there's any trace of mould, I'd use something bleachy.

  1. Dry it some more. Ventilate it some more.

  1. Try an open tub of bicarb, with a bit of essential oil added to it if you like, to try to absorb some smell.

Yes to what Hermione suggests and leave the cupboard open for a while to thoroughly dry out.

Thank you for your suggestions Hermione, yes it's definitely fixed. They left the tap in the bath and had water running and forgot to turn it off.
