Smelly toilet even though it's cleaned and bleached every day?

Our downstairs loo is giving off a smell ( hard to describe the smell ), it does get used a lot by the dc's and they often forget to flush ( but I tend to check it and flush it ), I bleach and clean it every day and it's squeaky clean so I don't understand why it smells. When I walk in the front door I can smell it, the upstairs loo is fine. Any ideas?

We live in a HA house and the toilet is only a few years old ( was new when we moved in 3 years ago ), I'm not sure if it is a plumbing issue and if I should phone HA to come and have a look at it?

Is it toilet or the floor?

What do you mean, it it attached to the floor ( plumbed in through the floor )? It is, it's one of those modern(ish) toilets with the 2 buttons for a big flush and smaller flush but probably the cheapest of the cheap as it's HA.

The floor around the toilet or the wall

Is it the drains?

We have a number of toilets in our house and all are fine apart from DS1's. In his bathroom for some reason it always smells dreadful. Apparently its something to do with the way its connected up to the drain.

It could be the floor around the bottom of the toilet...especially if the children don't have a great aim.

A steam cleaner is amazing for getting rid of those type of smells.

It's on the floor, seal around the base of the loo seems fine, I have dd's so they don't pee all over the floor and dh is well trained, I mop around the loo every couple of days. I can't smell anything in the sink.

I'd give a shout out to PigletJohn but as I say, our is the gas coming back up from the drains and is something to do with a seal somewhere needing replacing.

Maybe that's what it is, the smell isn't really a raw sewage smell, more a dirty ( almost eggy ) water smell.

Do you wash the whole toilet including the waste pipe and around the back? The floor needs to be done around the while toilet at the same time.

Is it the basin drain, rather than the loo, perhaps?

um- sorry- re-read, not in basin...
perhaps the pipes behind the wall/under floor are leaking? Even basin pipe water would niff if left dripping into the concrete underneath over a time.

same eggy smell with ours. I bet its the same thing (gasses from the drain). Apparently its a fairly simple thing for a plumber to sort out the seal. We have only delayed with ours because we're going to redo the bathroom in a few months.

I think I will give the housing association a call, hopefully they will sort it out.
