Cleaning grout between floor tiles

cherryhealey · 05/08/2014 20:15

Probably been done to death but tell me how to brighten /clean the grout between my floor tiles.

Originally it was a light grey colour but now really black in places.

Have tried the old bleach and toothbrush method with no difference.

Products and tips please wise ones.

I was told to sand the top layer away with fine sandpaper. just enough to get the dirt away.
I haven't tried it yet though.

Depending on the type of tile, I get a steel scourer type device and a bucket of warm soapy water. I then scrape along the grout lines. It's really not fun but gets it done.

Get a grout whitening pen.

Use it on very clean but grotty looking grout.

I scourer old dirt and then use the white pen too, but it's such a pain

We used oxyclean on a scourer. Took ages but good results.

Dettol mould and mildew spray, I tried it after reading about it on here, amazing stuff. Spray on, leave for a few minutes, light scrub off and fab grout again.

buy mould spray. I got one from robert dyas. not sure what brand it was, the bottle looked pretty cheap & naff but it cost about £6. Amazing stuff, just spray, leave on for half hour then wash away. unless stains are atrocious no scrubbing will be required.
