Stove top too hot

I just moved into a new apartment. My stove top (Not the burners) is way too hot and dangerous. I discovered and it appears that the top is bent in the center, almost as if someone stood on top of it to push the middle part of the stove down. This has caused the edges of the door and front part of the stove to have at least a quarter or a half inch of space allowing for heat to escape. I want to know if this is dangerous other than the fact I could get burnt. This also causes my air conditioning to work harder to keep my apartment cool. I contacted the maintenance man with my apartment management and he said that my seal is intact which it is and there is nothing wrong with the stove because apartment appliances are made really cheap and this is normal. I really want to refuse this lame excuse. I have lived in lots of apartments, been a homeowner and have never had such a problem before. I would like to report this to a higher agency because this is dangerous to me. I do not have grandchildren yet, but someday I will and I do not want anything unnecessary to happen. Please advise if you think I am crazy. I live in the United States and I do not know who to contact for help. If anyone can help me, I would really greatly appreciate it. Thank You and have a wonderful day!!!

I can't advise you who to turn to because I am not in the US. But it does sound as though you are being fobbed off. Not sure which seal is intact because if there is a gap and heat is escaping that cannot be right.

I would take photos to show the problem and see if you can take some temperature readings and compare those with readings at a friend or relative's place to show the difference. Put your complaint in writing and send it registered mail to the managing agent stating both the health and safety and energy wasting issues. Is there a consumer action group or advice centre you can contact?
