Dishwashers?

Not whether or not to buy one, that is definitely happening.

It's quite likely that our dishwasher is dead – started cycle then stopped dead and will not turn on – left with dirty pots an inch of water in the bottom. Have checked fuse etc.

My best guess is that it is 13-15 years old, so not worth trying to repair it, even if the parts were available, so it looks like new dishwasher time.

Last year we thought our fridge freezer was on its last legs so had a half hearted look in Currys for a new one (FF is also of a similar, but slightly older vintage) but were just completely bamboozled by the massive choice, but with little discernable differences between them.

We didn’t get a new FF at the time because a. the old one pulled through after a well overdue vaccuming of its vents (still working fine now) and b. none of the hundreds available in Currys were quite ‘right’ (mostly the freezer sections seemed very small compared with our existing one).

But the dishwasher replacement is much more urgent but I have no idea if there are any particular features I need to be aware of or, is any dishwasher likely to be suitable, bearing in mind I just need it to do the washing up?

A quick google brings up this which at £230 after the cashback seems to be a decent price for a decent brand? I'm sure the old one cost a lot more than that all that time ago! And it looks like it is in stock and deliverable in a couple of days.

So to save me driving myself mad trying to compare all the options out there, is there any reason why I should just order the one linked to above. Have bought things from Currys before and TBH they seem no better or worse than most of the other retailers out there.

I have this dishwasher and recommend it. I have brought stuff from Curry's, Comet (RIP) & DFS and have had no problems with the goods or their customer services. I also buy from John Lewis if they have what I need.

My one piece of dishwasher advice is take one of your biggest plates and one of your biggest glasses to the shops and see how they fit inside before making the final decision. Nothing more annoying than a dishwasher that isn't built to cope with your plates/glasses.

The inside space on all dishwashers is not created equal!

We've had 2 Bosch dishwashers in the last 11 years (the second one only purchased last autumn). And other Bosch appliances in the kitchen too, so I would go with Bosch, due to my lack of imagination and their reliability.

We have a John Lewis near us, so tend to buy large white goods from them. That dishwasher is more expensive on their website here but they include a 2 yr guarantee automatically and if you speak with them, they price match too. Ah, but they might not do the cashback thing, just noticed that. (But our Bosch dishwasher there was a cashback offer, but it was given through manufacturer rather than retailer, so maybe that would still be available? Don't know, sorry). Hth.

What Lottie said - check the size of plates and glasses. Our neff dw came free with our kitchen and it's rubbish - plates don't fit and the wire trays are flimsy and fall off their runners so watch out for that too. Your bosch one looks fine.

Bosch are great. I prefer John Lewis, Curry's cust service is not much good.

For me a 30 minute cycle that doesn't sound like a jumbo jet taking off would be important (assuming plates fit in it). JL customer services is good plus I've always had them deliver when they said they would..

I have an integral Bosch dishwasher. Does the job, well.

each time I've bought a new dwr, it has been quieter than the one before/

The full-sized 60x60x80cm freestanding ones are all about the same size inside and the top rack can be moved up and down depending on size of biggest things. Some of the newer ones have a sliding cutlery rack at the top which might be more convenient than the usual basket.

Thanks for the replies. I will probably get that one. I can't see the same one at JL but there is a similar one for £50 more, but I don't expect them to price match something 'similar' and I don't like near a John Lewis anyway so don't know if they price match on the internet. And they say up to 7 working days for delivery and I cannot wait that long Grin.

Hadn't thought about the plates, but seeing as our entire crockery collection currently consists of one set from ikea that cost around a tenner and another one that was a gift from the PILs that was probably also similarly priced from Argos, all of which are older than the dead dishwasher, it doesn't seem sensible to fit the dishwasher to the plates IYSWM.

The top 6 in the Which Best Buys table are Bosch, but not that particular model, but a Bosch is probably a pretty good bet.

My Bosch dishwasher is 14 years old (touch wood) and has never even needed repairing. It goes on at least once a day.

I'd get a fairly simple one - ime you don't use fancy features all that much.
