how to get the milk smell out of carpet?

i dropped a bottle of milk in the entrance to work on Friday. i dabbed the milk up and the had to leave to pick the kids up. there is a milk smell. my boss is an arse. how am i going to fix this?

i hate to tell you this but the only way to get rid of that smell is to rip up the carpet, disinfect the floor and put down new carpet.

I don't know if it'll work with milk, but when dd vomited (a whole bottle of milk, actually) all over her rug I cleaned it and then covered it in bicarbonate of soda and left it to dry before hoovering it up. The smell went completely but the floor will look messy while the bicarbonate is on it - not ideal for a workplace.

Ammonia is supposed to work on milk. God knows where you get it!

A solution of biological washing powder might do it. It breaks down proteins.
