Slugs on the carpet

So I've know and ignored for a while that we have a slug problem because I've seen the occasional slime trail in the morning on the living room carpet. Actually saw one on the slippery little suckers today. Have got rid of it.

Now tell me, it's unlikely to be just one culprit that got in from outside isn't it? It was by the skirting hoard so I think I now know the area of the room they are coming from. Will there be some kind of nest? How do I find it? How do I discourage/kill them all? Can't put poison down as have toddler and baby.

If it's an option you can give yourself a temporary win by putting down some coffee grounds, I did a really thin line of it down by the skirting board where I thought they were coming in and it kept them away for about a month (probably needed to refresh it after the first month). Ours was in a utility area which didn't see any foot traffic, though.

That could work. Going away for a week next week. Does it put them off or dissolve them like salt does?

Also the carpet is brown so that could work well.

Do they need to be used or not? The grounds, that is Smile

I put salt down, I know it's supposed to dissolve them and make a nasty orange mess, but in fact it didn't - maybe they were intelligent enough simply to stay away! You need to top it up after a while though. Little beggars.
