Ikea algot fittings?

does anyone have these? what is the quality like? trying to plan a wardrobe wall for our new house but the nearest Ikea is quite a journey away, not great for casual browsing! it seems a cheap way to get a whole wall full of storage but not worth doing if it is going to. need replacing after a couple of years.

Hi Betty, we've just fitted Algot along a whole wall of our bedroom and will be (one day!!) putting sliding doors in front of it. I think it is pretty good quality and definitely a fraction of the price of something like Elfa.

We wanted to use the whole height of the room, so we have got five columns of storage which all end at the top with a solid shelf on which we can fit empty suitcases, spare pillows, etc. We tried out a few combinations and we have some extra pieces kept back so that if we find we need another shelf or drawer, we can rearrange the layout.

I think it will easily last a lot more than a couple of years, as long as you fix it up properly - especially taking care to fix the uprights well into the wall. We used a premium type of wall plug that comes with its own screws - not just bog standard rawlplugs. Also, unless you are in a new build and your walls are perfectly straight, you'll need to put a bit of packing behind the uprights so they don't wobble side to side once you add in the stress/strain from things on runners.

DH wrote some handy tips on a blog but I can't find it. I'll come back and post it if I do. You might look up "ikea hacks" for ideas how to optimise Algot. We have four columns of the 600mm wide sections, then at the end a column of solid shelves which had to be cut down from 400mm. The solid shelves are the only element that you can DIY-vary the width. As usual, Ikea like to think that everyone lives in houses with internal dimensions in multiples of ikea-units!!

hi, thank you for replying! That sounds really promising.
just thinking how much storage I can fit even on 5 feet of wall (if I put it in the alcove) is making me excited!
