Where can I buy one of these? I really want one, but all I can find are fancy extendable ones.

Thanks, I just found that one! It's a bit pricey though - £16 + £10 P&P Shock.

Can you not just buy a piece of 2*4 and cut a v at one end with a saw?

That's what I did and then sanded and oiled it. I do have to remember to put it in the garage after use though.

Go to B&Q and buy a length of 2x1, cut a notch in the top, and a triangle wedge off the bottom. Hey presto, a clothes line prop. Bigger B&Qs do a free timber cutting service (at least they used to) if you don't have a small saw.

xposts.

I don't oil mine, nor put it in the garage, just replace it after three years or so when it snaps.

MrsPnut

That is exactly what I did, ok its not round but it works far better than those rubbish extendable ones that bend under pressure.
If you want it smooth you can varnish, but I just treated it will seal so it doesn't go horrible when wet.
Got mine from local wood store only cost few quid.

My mum has a branch from a tree for this Grin.

Grin Ann.

I know, I should just make one, but would the length of wood fit in a medium car? And can I be bothered?

Death, I'd love one made from a tree branch eyes tree in the garden.

I'm going to put this on my list for the house. My metal ones collapsed and the washing got mucky.

Go for a nice walk and get one - you can use it as a walking stick on the way home :)
