I actually sold the 1st one to my ex-MIL when I moved overseas, 12 years ago, and it's still going strong!

LG. Replaced a Bosch that had done 10 years good service. The LG is quiet and has a 10 year warranty on the motor.

Bosch - they go on forever. Washing machine repair man took pity on me while mending my shitty Phillips Whirlpool for the third time and told me to get a Bosch as he's hardly ever had to fix one. He rang me up six months later and asked me if we wanted one as he knew someone getting rid of one (updating fir newer model). Said Yes and still have it, 6 years on and no breakdowns. I'd never have anything else now.

LG direct drive ,really quiet and efficient and you can programme it so it does what you want . I've got the 8 kg one .

Zanussi. Bought with our house but at least 7 years old. Holds loads and loads of washing.

Bosch too. We had a hot point one that gave us an annual problem. And it's not so much the problem that drove me up the wall. It was the ridiculous service people. Essentially taking 4-6 weeks to sort out the fault which I tell them the code of (in the hope that they'll bring the right part or motherboard or whatever).

Have had good things about Aeg too. Oh and whatever you get, appliancesonline is great. Good prices and free next day delivery?!! Brilliant.

Bought a Samsung not long ago. Programmable, 10 yr guarantee on the motor (5 yr on rest of it). Quiet, quick, thorough. From Appliances Online (who were excellent) for about £400. Replaced a Bosch that we had for about 12 years.

My Bosch is nearly 10, and has been used nearly every day, at least once.

We have a 10 year old Zanussi that still works perfectly despite having 'lived' in four countries with their different waters and extremes of temperatures and travelled by boat across various seas. It has also regularly washed very oily and or filthy Army kit.

My mum has an 8 year old Zanussi - bought to replace her first one that died at 16.

German (not Spanish) Bosch!

We just got a 7kg Bosch and I'm really impressed. We bought it from a local independent/ Euronics place. The bloke who delivered it is also the repair man, and he said he hardly ever has to fix a Bosch. Also we have an ancient Bosch dishwasher which is still going strong after 10+ years.

How do you know the bosch is a German machine or not themidwife?

My Bosch (not a latest model) measures how much stuff you have put in it, and graduates the amount of water it takes in to suit. IIRC it sets itself to one third, two thirds, and full.

I only happened to notice it when looking at the instruction booklet recently.

The "Which" reliability index is very high so I don't believe that there are heaps of rogue machines being turned out from the factories outside Germany.

A bit like Skoda and Rolls Royce cars are good even if manufactured away from VW and BMW's home country.

It is a bit quicker with small loads as the water heats up faster, not being so much of it.
