FLYing through March: Fledglings Assemble

SilveryMoon · 28/02/2013 20:10

Welcome to the March Fledgling FLYers thread

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on.

Thanks to SC and Blue for leading us through January and February and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted .

Let's get the old dust balls rolling for March!

Thanks Silvery and thanks Blue for Feb. I'm going to try a bit harder this month.

Hi WhoKnows I'm going to try harder this month too.

*
Here are the links we'll need for tomorrow:
babystep 1 - Shine your sink. This is the most important one and the foundation of the system we follow.
mission for Friday. Set timer for 15 mins and do something that needs to be done in zone 1.
Information on zones Zone 1 is Entrance, Porch and Dining room.
daily focus should update itself.
this months habit will all become clear in the morning (hopefully)
the flightplan if anyone needs a quick check on where we are.

Use the parts that you want to and remember there is no such thing as being behind, just jump right in.

Hope all those links work and I have included everything we need.

Still, have definitely been doing errands day today, running round like a mad thing! And yesterday I anti-procrastinated calling the piano tuner, so the piano is now tuned... :)

Thanks for the new thread, Silvery.

Welcome dew and mrsb
Jump right in, we're right at the beginning
Of a new cycle so a perfect time to get started.
We suggest you have a look at the above links and navigate through the flylady website at leisure. Do not sign up to the emails as your inbox will quickly become cluttered with messages you won't need. Any questions, just ask, someone will be around to answer them.
It all starts from a shiny sink.
This is a simple system that allows us to tackle our homes without it taking over our lives.
Babysteps is the key word. Our homes did not get how they are in a day, they certainly won't become clutter free in a day.
Complete the Babystep and declutter for 15 mins a day, enjoy it, tell us about it and chat and take back control.

Someone stop me when I start to waffle!

Not sure what I'll do for the 15 mins in hallway. Think it'll have to be something in the bathroom as I tweaked this zone. The toothbrush holder could do with a rinse and there's some limescale round the taps. I hear white vinegar is good for that so will have to Google instructions.

Morning all. Apologies for absence last month and probably more absence this month. I can't go into details in here but we have an horrific family situation at the moment which means this has probably been the most difficult week of my lifeSad. Hence rl is taking priority at the moment. I shall be back when things have calmed down and I have managed to sort my head out. Happy March flying to you allSmile.

Hello everyone - just parking my mop and bucket

Thanks for shiny new thread Silvery!

Thanks A multitude of thanks to Blue (and Toffee) for leading us through February.

A very warm welcome to Dewdrop and MrsB

Ellie sorry to hear things are so difficult atm. Hope you and yours are ok x

Funeral is on the 4th (800+ km away) so hope to be back on here from Mon 11th if not before, when some serious Flying will need to be done - house currently a cess-pit.

[Slopes off to help Bitchy stock bar. Looks around hopefully for Just to come on and state that March is the new January (it being more authoritative coming from her Grin)]

Eternal thanks to those running the fledgling threads. I read and feel I'm not alone even if I don't post that much.

{{HUGS}} to Ellie - look after yourself.

I have signed up for Flylady Lite. This seems to be one email a day so not so overwhelming and has the occasional good bit in it.

We now have hard floors (necessary for DH) over most of the ground floor. What a faff! Instead of muck sitting comfortably in the carpet until I vacuum it the dust and dog / cat hair rolls accusingly all over the floor every day. Maybe it's more hygenic but I'm under-impressed. Any tips?

Hi, I am also new to this thread though I did lurk (briefly!) once last year. I am determined to give it a proper go this month. Will try and have a look through the above links and post a list later though realistically I may have to start tomorrow as I have lots of deadlines at work today and am out at 7 tonight!!

to do this weekend
all round dust and hoover
make cake
wash floor
choose a good book from the library

Happy Friday x

Ellie - really sorry to hear that. I hope the situation can be resolved. ((hugs)) in the meantime.

Honu - hadn't heard of Flylady Lite. Am intrigued...

Welcome, PeasandCucumbers Smile.

to everyone else - and apologies for not doing more personals.

Silvery - thanks for the links. I wasn't going to do the missions, but my dining room is a mess again, so I think maybe I should do at least 15 minutes in there, which means I will have done the mission anyway. I'm not sure 15 minutes will touch it, but it's better than nothing.

Woke up to a cold house, as usual, but the heating engineer arrived at 8.15 and had the spare part in his van instead of having to send off for it Shock , so we now have a working boiler and a warm house again Grin.

Lots of home ed to catch up with today. It's DH's birthday on Sunday, so I think we should make some cards too.

Have won a prize Grin: a copy of 'Dorkius Maximus', which DS2 will probably enjoy. I never win anything, so it was a nice start to the day.

Any of you following Trazzle - she is having a particularly hard time at the moment Sad.

Hope you all have a good day.
