Lazurus the Ikea pine table

I have a very cheap old pine dining table I got from Ikea years ago which I'd like to bring back from the dead. Its a bit battered and sad looking but its still functional. I'd like to give it a lick of paint to make it look better and match in with the kitchen in our new house, any ideas what I should use and how to go about this?

We just use normal paint...dunno if you're meant to use anything different, but it's always looked fine to me!

Apply paint, wait to dry. Voila.

Could you maybe do some shabby chic thing to it with sandpaper if you like that? Or decoupage?

What kind of paint did you use? I used gloss on a table once before and ended up with a horrible tacky finish after a few days of eating and wiping up so I'd like to avoid that.

Chalky/flat matt paint looks good on furniture. You could cover that with a clear varnish. Alternatively a sanded and varnished or sanded and waxed table top always looks good teamed with painted legs.

I think eggshell paint is good for what you need

Satinwood is very easy to use, I find. Way more forgiving than gloss!
