Wax crayon on the blackboard...

DS got a blackboard for Christmas, DH has a new year's resolution to tidy up. DH tidied up a wax crayon into the chalk pot, now the chalk doesn't write on the blackboard anymore. Any ideas greatly appreciated!

possibly white spirit on a ball of kitchen roll would take it off

wear plastic (not rubber) gloves

once degreased you can give it a coat of blackboard paint. Curiously, chalk works better on a blackboard that has been covered in chalk and rubbed off than on a clean board.

Thank you. Will give the white spirit a go when the weather gets a bit nicer so I can brave the shed!

I was going to suggest WD40. Not sure - it's supposed to work on crayon.

Or hairspray might do it.

WD-40 does work on crayon. I'm just not entirely sure what it might do to the blackboard finish. Perhaps if it's buffed off with a clean dry towel as much as possible so it doesn't leave a greasy patch.

I think it would probably leave an oily film that would interfere with the chalk. I would be more confident in white spirit which will not add any more grease.

Iron a brown paper bag over it. The wax melts and gets absorbed into the bag. Works a treat on carpets!
Hope it works on blackboards :-/

Baby wipe... Yes really!

The chalk has a wax film on it?

Just throw it away, or use it outside on the pavement. Much cheaper to replace than using WD-40.

If the crayon is on the blackboard, gently clean with an abrasive cleaner such as Jif.

Thank you all so much for your replies. Will run down the list and keep you posted.
Baby wipe didn't work. Tried that one straightaway as there are always some kicking about
