striped carpet yay or nay?

im moving to a new property next month and have always liked the look of striped carpet.

But... ive got that niggling in the back of my head saying it will look awful? obviously the little sample you see in carpet right looks nice, yet im not sure if it would look good on a bigger scale.

Looking at having just the stairs and upstairs hallway in the wide brown/beige stripes. (hallway is square shaped)

so has any one else got it, recomened it? dont recomened it?

No it looks fab, we have one on our stairs and landing, looks stunning, does not show the dirt and everyone who comes to the house loves it, I sounds boasty/smug here but it is true, even the Talk Talk man who came last week commented on it! PM your email and I will send you a pic!

I have a thin stripes one in our family room. Everyone loves it. Hides dirt well. Wears well. I imagine a wide striped one would be more over-powering and wouldn't disguise dirt as well.

iMe i went to price up and look at a few striped carpets yesterday and the 2 shops did say thin stripes look better.

was abit put off yesterday as my stairs turn at the top so was told the stripes on the landing will need to go horizontal along the landing :-( not what i imagened, id prefered them to of been vertical to elongate the look of the landing.

We have stripes on our stairs and upstairs landing. I love them. My stripes on the landing are along the length of the landing if that makes sense? Think the other way would look a bit weird.

so they are vertical along the landing? so you have straight stairs with no turn?

where my stairs turn at the top the stripes will need to go horizontal on the landing - so it will look like lined paper Hmm very wierd.

My striped carpet is on the stairs and landing. The lines run vertical on both, the t junction where the stairs meet the landing looks fine.

I love my striped carpet and nearly everyone comments on it

so if they were to cut it at the turn then run the carpet vertical it looks ok? they said that it couldnt be done Confused because they would run oposite directions!

so confused! if it looks ok then i might just TELL them i want it that way!
