What is the best way of separating meat juices from a roast and the fatty yuck to make gravy?

Is there a magic gadget out there? :)

There is such a thing as a special type of gravy jug which has the spout about a third of the way up the main body. It's designed so that the fat sits at the top and the lovely gravy can be poured in to a gravy boat or straight on the plate. Not sure where to get one but I know they exist - a specialised cook shop perhaps?

You need a fat separator, bought mine from Morrisons about five years ago for £4. Brilliant little piece of kit.

I got tired of washing out 'fat seaparators' and the like. Now I just tip the juices and fat together into a small jug and pop it into the fridge or freezer while the meat is resting wrapped in foil or wherever. The fat solidifies on top like a little lid, or at least settles there, depending on how long you leave it, and can just be lifted or scooped off.

This doesn't work if you used a large quantity of oil for roasting but it pretty much does for most meats.

Hmmm there's a simple looking one with a low down spout at lakeland. And another one with a sieve thing at the top and a stopper in the spout? Confused

I'm always a bit iffy about putting hot things in the fridge/ freezer.

Like this. I separate it while it's warm, then dump the dregs and the fat in a bowl to cool down and set while we eat. Por away the rest of the juices and throw the fat in the bin, and the jug in the dishwasher. I was given a jug by my DM, she always has the best kitchen gadgets. Xmas Grin

No need to spend money on anything. Just tip the pan slightly until the juices/fat gather in the corner and spoon the fat off the top.

Or use apple's excellent tip, think i will from now on!

If you like birds, you can put the solidified fat out for them.
Well out of reach of rats.

Never put fat down the sink, of course.

I've got a jug with a spout from the bottom, you just pour everything in and let it settle for a few mins then pour the meat juices back into your pan to make gravy, careful to leave the fat in the jug. Wait for it to solidify and then you can bin it, or put it out for the birds.
