Are digital scales any good?

Was thinking of buying some or asking someone to buy them for me for Christmas. Current owners - are they any good? I've heard they have trouble with small amounts ( I would have thought they'd be better at this!). Please tell me what you think. Thanks.

I use one and swear by it. It seems quite accurate at any weight.

Have to admit I love mine. One trick I learned is to weight spoons and cups of ingredients and annotate recipes so that when it says 2 cups of flour I know what that weighs so I can just weigh it in with all the other ingredients.

You need to weigh 10 cups and take the average. Speeds up cooking a lot.

I love my digital scale. It seems to work fine (although I'm not sure how I'm meant to know if it doesn't work!).

I have a set of Salter digital scales and u really like them. Especially for measuring fluid.

They are fine for small amounts. 5 years old and still like new.

Aquatronic salter scales bees knees.
I've had mine around 10 years. It has a zero button so bowlon, zero. Flour in, zero. Butter in, zero etc.

I wouldn't be without mine. The only drawback is that they switch off fairly quickly so you have to make sure all your packets are open and pour the ingredients in reasonably quickly.

Mine are Salter and are over 20 years old. I have some traditional mechanical scales but they aren't anything like as accurate as my digital ones. As I do a lot of baking accuracy is pretty important.

I have had salter one for the last 8 years or so - one of my best presents (saddo emoticon). The zero button is very handy, as is the kg/oz conversion button for American recipes.

They're great ..g/oz useful if you're of an age where you still think more in oz but want to be able to use newfangled recipes.

Love that they don't take up much space - I use scales all the time so they have to be kept out. Wipe clean easily.

No cos the battery always run out just when you don't expect. And the batteries are small and always forget to buy new one.

You must have bought the wrong ones then. My Salter scales are over 20 years old and I have changed batteries so infrequently that I can't remember the last time I replaced them.

The scales I've got now run on standard AA or AAA batteries (can't remember which, don't have to change them that often).

The scales I linked to above do work on batteries but also have a plug in DC transformer so I dont use batteries.

Love them. Was sad to lose the very beautiful old balance scales but they'd always been too big for current kitchen (looked great in our old one and got used all the time).
