Homework melt down

...Again! My DD8, who shows has sent the last three hours 'doing' her English homework. The task is to write an adventure story. She has spent 3hrs writing 1/2 A4 page of utter nonsense with no punctuation and spelling mistakes galore. She has however managed to draw all over her thighs with pen. My husband has finally lost it with her after sitting down and trying to inspire her with zero success. She's in bed now. No homework. Me & DH have fallen out because I didn't like the way he was speaking to her, DD has gone to bed sad and I feel like a shit working mother. Is this normal?

Yes it's normal. It's the end of term and she's shattered. Teachers should not be setting this kind if homework so late in the term. You HAVE got homework - she spent 3 hours on it. On a sunny day (it was sunny here, anyway!) I would give it in and write an accompanying letter saying she struggled and it's no wonder - she's tired, it's clearly the end of term and she had to go to bed. You are not improving it.

You are not a bad mother for the outcome of this evening.

(In my opinion.)

Thanks. She's generally always like this with homework though. But no sanction from school, so I guess she doesn't have anything to worry about.
