As a mother I know that BBC local radio can be a lifeline. It stops a feeling of isolation when you are at home for the first time with a young baby. It is the only BBC service than can provide you with a voice in your community and it covers many issues locally and nationally about childrearing etc and often covers issues to do with schools, whether school admission policies or advertising fundraising events.

BBC local radio is now under threat and there is a proposal to network it with 5 Live.
