Due to dd's bullying problems and subsequent ly taking her out of school, seems we are now looking at he as a real option. We've been keeping her ticking over but she's yr 10 and I personally can't see myself getting her through Maths particularly.

So how doe sit work, do yours go to a class or such like? Where do they taker the actual exams?

TIA.

The easiest option is to take IGCSE (international) ones. Look at Edexcel and CIE websites.

Then buy the book from amazon, study at your own pace, then put in for the exam when you are ready.

The exams are generally taken at Independent schools as a 'private candidate'. You email/phone the local independent schools and ask if they take private/external candidates and they will guide you from there. You fill in a form, pay your entrance exam (around 35 per subject) plus an arrangement fee (around £25) and sometimes if you are the only candidate there may be invigilator costs.

Then turn up, do exam and sit back and wait for the results!

IGCSE contains no coursework, so there is no faffing. Just a couple of papers to sit.

This is the way we have found the easiest and only study one suject at a time. Start at any age after about 12.

Our local sixth form college offers English Language and Maths GCSE as 1 year evening course very cheaply to adults, although I'm not sure they would take someone of school age (they do on other courses). So it might be worth enquiring locally to see if there's anything like that available.
