Thank goodness there is a man like this in the H of L.

I've just read that. He sounds like a very smart and articulate person, especially his riposte to the "statistics".

I'm beginning to think that this is going to be very similar to the campaign started a long while ago for birth choices. I think there might the same kind of strife and discord until the authorities realise that actually engaging with people is far more productive than trying to control them.

I've looked up my local county council information on HE: www3.hants.gov.uk/education/parents-info/home-education/home-education-faq.htm. I'd be interested to know how that is viewed by HE parents.

The thought that occurred to me was that although LA's don't fund anything for HE people, if they had found some money some time ago to... I don't know, maybe fund some sessions where HE parents could browse through books, other resources, maybe talk to a teacher or someone who understands the reasons why parents choose to HE, then that would, long ago, have made for a much better relationship between LA's and successful HE children and parents. (And wouldn't, then, have given rise to nonsense statistics.)

Oooh he is wonderful
I have a strange need to bake him a big cake

Other than baking cakes for him, I wish there was something we could do to let him know how much we need people like him - write him an email/letter I guess?

Isnt it rather sweet how the Lords preface their speeches "It is a pleasure to follow that speech and I thank the right honourable gentleman"

I nosed at a few of the other speeches and they all start in a similar way

I want to hug him!

I feel that if I did, he might think it a little inappropriate . Maybe the cake, then?

Really nice articulate speech. Interesting to see if those distinctions he makes ( 'Year 11' children and Travellers ) get carried forward and the stats stop being all lumped together so unintelligently.

My local HE group have obtained Lord Lucas' email address - with a plan to send him some lovely emails telling him we appreciate his support
I dont know how readily available it is on the internet or whether I should publish it here but if anyone would like it - feel free to CAT me or I can CAT you the details

I have been in tears today about all this government interferring with HE. As we are new to HE it feels so scary to be threatened like this

I still would like to make Lord Lucas a cake

WOW!!!!!
Have only just been to look at this as have been busy but he seriously rips that report into pieces and makes the reasoning and arguments that we all have been making eloquently and with a large slice of common sense. If this bill goes through then it really will show how farcical our countries parlimentary process has become
