Help please, help on temporary HE for 5 yr old

Hi all,
I am due to move in the half term (following a carefully considered decision and current terrible OFSTEAD report from DD's school to move out of the city into a town 15 miles away with excellent schools). There is a place for my 7 yr old but not my 5 yr old (until September when there will be 15 places in her yr - building work). The education officer has tld me that I am unlikely to win an appeal because the key stage 1 class size is at the limit of 30 at the moment. Despite the fact that there will be so many places available in September.

Soooo, rather than driving DD1 to her current school every day until September(which means arranging childcare for DD2 to get to school etc). Or sending DD1 to a different school only to move her again in September I think the best thing all round would be HE for DD1 until September. The one to one from me would benefit her anyway I think as I have been told she is 'behind' (I have strong feelings on that word as she is an August baby and being compared to 6 yr olds at the mo).

Any advise would be appreciated on where I go from here, thank you.

That sounds like an excellent idea - there are certainly no legal problems with HEing for a short time between schools. All you have to do is to deregister them both from the existing school, from the date when you want to move them. And get DD1 registered for the new school, and apply for DD2 from September. Then you are free to educate DD2 in whatever way you think best - it just has to be suitable to her "age, abilities and aptitudes".

There are lots of mums on here who HE that age group, who'll be able to point you in the right direction for resources, but it's down to you to think about what you should focus on - you can find information about what she would be covering in the NC if you want to help her "catch up" with what is being expected, or else concentrate on more general skills if you think that's what she needs first.
