Sofas

I need a new sofa and chair or two sofas. Have never bought my own sofas before - just made do with handmedowns. Not sure what I need to budget and what to prioritise. Would like them to be cleanable in some way but is leather out of fashion now? Living room is grey with light wood floors. Any ideas where to start looking?

I'd start by looking on line to get an idea of designs and costs. Personally, I wouldn't buy one without sitting on it! After all that's what you want it for, so go around some show rooms, look at different fabrics etc.
Be aware that sofas look much small in large shop spaces, so take measurements for a sofa, that will fit in your room. We found Multiyork very helpful.
Unfortunately the sofa we bought didn't have enough room to swing round the door opening, despite out measuring that it fitted into the room. ( old cottage) .We had to get one with detachable legs. Multiyork gave us a full refund.

We traipsed around all the major retail places & sat on each sofa we liked for ages.

You'd be surprised at how many are actually not that comfy after 10-15 minutes.

In the end we bought a duresta from furniture village. It was expensive but it is so comfortable & plumps up like new shame the cat decided to start clawing furniture for the first time on it

If you like leather then get it.

Thanks both. Definitely want it to be comfy and to be able to stretch out on it. Am in two minds re leather. I like that it's stain proof but less keen on the cold feeling

Just a thought. Covers that come off for cleaning are practical. I like the idea of leather although some claim it's cold. It doesn't bother me and I like the idea of no cleaning. A throw of some kind could eliminate cold feelings! Worth investigating different types of leather. Some really soft expensive leathers can "felt" after awhile while tougher, cheaper ones last longer. There is info on on line about leathers.

I've just bought two Ektorp sofas in a mid grey colour. The covers come off for washing. I got the footstool as well which is quite big and can be used as a chaise with the sofa. I'm impressed at how sturdy they are. Good for the price.

Sorry they are from Ikea.
