Help with 'zoning' a big room

We have a large lounge which is in the process of being painted. We need to buy some new furniture to go in it, basically the only thing we have which we want to keep are two large sofas and the room would be very empty with just those in it!
But we're struggling to 'zone' the room as its too big really for just two sofas, we need more things but are completely lacking in inspiration!
the room is pretty much 6m square and has a fireplace in the centre of the wall opposite the doorway, and Windows/French doors on the walls either side.
We've wondered about the idea of having the back half of the room set up with a table (desk?) and the front half with the sofas/tv but we don't really need another table. I've done a plan of the room, any ideas would be great!

I'd have 2-3 sofas and a coffee table in front of the fire place or 2 and an arm chair then either a desk, side unit/drinks cabinet/book shelves or reading corner with lamp, arm chair and side table at the back. Depends what works for your family and what space you need really.

Or if you bought a third sofa for opposite the fireplace, you could put a no taller than sofa height furniture unit behind it to kind of split the room in two.

When I was doing our living room (two rooms knocked into one - walk through it to get to the kitchen, plus stairs and fireplace) I first figured out where people would be walking most often and used that to place the sofa and TV so that you wouldn't always be walking between the two to get anywhere (ended up creating a kind of passage way behind the sofa to walk to the kitchen up at one end)

Then I left a big blank space in front of the TV and by the front door because we always got in a jam when we came in, and any chair placed there would just end up covered in coat and schoolbag junk.

So my approach would be a functional one - figure out where you need to be, and where people will rarely be, and place your furniture accordingly.

oooh wish i had this problem!
couches/seats at side of fireplace - in front of window
for everyone sitting in front of fire at christmas :)
bookcases -sideboard- table in corner of bottom left of room plan
nice big rug in the bottom half of the room for those days of lying on the floor playing with toys

The lounge is the 'end' room of the house so we walk through to get out into the garden. At the moment we have the sofas in a L shape in front of the fire, tv in the top right corner. I want to move that because we have a gorgeous view out the French doors. I think we could do with an extra seat/sofa. I don't know what to put behind them though! Hmm, craft table maybe?!
Like the idea of bookcases and a reading corner.

I do know it's a lovely problem to have! We've always had no choice on furniture placement before, it's just gone in the only way it would fit!

In ours we have a sofa in the middle of the space, an armchair one side of the fire and TV the other.

Behind the sofa we have a small round table, a filing / desk unit (with all the house admin in it) and a bookcase with all the kids school stuff on it.
