Achieving the best blackout.

DS currently has basic blackout blinds plus curtains but they are past their best (one blind is actually broken and stuck down Sad).

So, what to replace them with. Most ready made curtains these days seems to be eyelet ones. Will they still give a blackout finish?

TIA

They will.
We had a street light right outside our bedroom window and had blackout eyelet curtains. Certainly did the job.
The key is that the curtain rail is high enough.

Thanks IP. I think that might be an issue in this room Sad

Hmm in DD2's room I currently have a blackout lined roman blind and blackout lined curtains (not eyelet) over the top and there is STILL loads of light coming in! (big South facing window) I have resorted to an extra stick on blackout blind - groblind I think - on the window and that seems to give the best result.

The hands down best solution for blackout is a cassette roller blind - basically it's like a roller blind but there are plastic or metal runners on each side which the blind sits inside so there are no chinks of light whatsoever. I don't know how expensive they are though, you'd have to have it made to measure so probably quite pricey.

We used an easy blackout blind which is fantastic

I permanently use one of those Gro anywhere blackout blinds that stick on the window - it's a small room that doesn't get used in the day so lack of daylight isn't an issue. But they're easy to put up and down. Best blackout I've ever seen.

We get black out roller blinds from Argos but you can get two! One that fits inside th window and a larger one that goes on the wall above the window! Amazing darkness! Plus they are cheap and come in a range of colours to match your room

We did the velcro to the window frame thing... then you can have whatever curtains you like!!
