same kitchen wall/unit colours?

my walls and units are currently the same colour of light grey (f&B cornforth white) the thing I think its too light for my marble work tops which have brown/taupe/black kind of swirls in them,.... anyway would you a have your walls a different colour to your units or the same ? my island is a contrasting brown but I want to change it all...are contrasting island colours still ok or a bit passe
