Thomas Sandersons Blinds - best laugh I've had in years!

I need blinds for a very large bay window made up of 7 huge floor to ceiling windows due to the fact that my husband cocked up designed them beautifully I can't have curtains!

The blinding sun this week has spurred me to get a quote for binds, someone in work recommended Thomas Sanderson as apparently they're amazing, great quality etc etc. So today I spent nearly 2 hours with one of their reps going through designs, fabrics etc and I settled on two that I liked. He promised me a good price and luckily the fabric I liked best was on offer and the final price? was £5976 for one bay window!!

So I've got a local company coming out tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone knows how much Thomas Sanderson overcharge by compared to other companies if at all? If I knew that I should be able to get it done for 40% less it would help me massively as at the moment I'm not sure that I'll ever be afford anything Confused

I have their shutters and they were much more expensive than the next price down. I went with them because I really liked the finish but I don't think there'd be a lot of difference between top and middle range fabric blinds. Try googling local shops that do them rather than large companies.

Duh! I see you already haveGrin

£853 each! You're having a giraffe! DP does blinds, shutters ect and says that's extortionate. Depending on access to the ceiling it would probably take him and his fitter half a day to fit. Obviously Romans are more expensive and would be at least 40-50% cheaper, rollers even more.

We had a quote from them for four bay windows it was around £9,000 we declined but they rang my DH and I almost weekly to try to talk us into ordering them DH was quite good just kept saying no sorry you are just too expensive they eventually brought their price down to £5,000!! TBH that just made me angry that they could all of a sudden accept £4K less, felt like they were ripping us off in the first place.
We have since had a quote from a local company which was recommended by a friend and I was impressed by their product. Their price £4,000! and no badgering sales people! I think I know who I'm going withWink

Oh and I should have said that was for shutters

This is the window. I can't have Roman blinds unfortunately due to the way that the windows open and rollers won't work either. I was expecting to pay £2-3k but not £6k.

Agree with scaryg. I used to work for a blinds place and we were generally half the price or less than Thomas Sanderson. I'm imagining door width windows and would guesstimate £250 per window for roller blinds in good, mid to high price band fabric, maybe £450 for Romans. That's for decent fabric, not starting prices so could be cheaper.

I think the considering most people would dismiss the quote as ridiculously overpriced and probably only 1 in 10 would actually place an order the prep must be on a huge rate of commission.

Get a quote from Blinds to go. We have two windows that each look the size of the main bit of your window.

BTG made two very large Venetian blinds for the window, about 3 years ago. They are great and were under £400 in total.

Thanks JT05 I'll have a look at their website.

Jt05 I've had a look at the website and the blinds look good, but from what I see you have to fit them yourself which is a problem as my DH and I are hopeless with a screwdriver Confused

We has a quote for our conservatory 13 years ago.
The conservatory cost £17k, we'd paid extra for a glass roof etc.
The blinds quote was £12k.
ExH and I just laughed at them.

I still haven't got blinds ...

Yeah....
They quoted me £5k for roof blinds
After I stopped laughing (the new glass roof didn't cost that!) I went with a sail blond company and got them for £1k

What type of blinds are they if they're not Romans or rollers?

Blinds to go and a local tradesman for a day

Dunelm? I rate their curtains and the after sale care was pretty good, although not excellent.

Are you sure you can't have curtains? You can buy ceiling mounted curtain track which bends to fit a bay. You would have to curve a little in the corners rather than 90degree angle but it should work. Otherwise blinds to go are good ime.

Order the fit-yourselves ones from Blinds2go.
I'll a dab hand with a drill and will happily fit them for you for £5k.
I still reckon you'd be a few quid in.

Just got back. The BTG were not difficult to fit and come with good instructions and extra tec. support if needed. A Handyperson hired for a couple of hours would get them fitted.

BTW we had the faux wood in off white, large slats. Real wood would have been too heavy, as they are very large windows.

Thomas Sanderson quoted us a similar for an ordinary bay window about 5 years ago. We went elsewhere in the end (eBay, I think!).

Can I just say: what a fabulous window and glorious view! Envy

Thank you returnofthesmartarse, It is a great view although due to the window facing due west we not only get the setting sun we get blinded by sunlight most of the afternoon! Hence the need for good blinds.
