House number for Edwardian house, to go on brick wall.

I've currently got a manky old brass number on the door. I want to have the house number on the brick wall of the porch instead. Any suggestions for appropriate or interesting styles of house number? I don't like brass and there's no other brass in the door furniture (the rest is black). I think a number on a background would probably show up better against the brick than a number on it's own. I wondered about one of those french signs with a white number on a blue enamel background, but the house is in the UK, not France, so maybe not. The porch is vaguely Arts and Crafts style, so that kind of thing might look good. The number is single digit, if that's relevant.

I have been looking for the same kind of thing for a similar sounding house and found some smart signs on eBay - they are acrylic and you can choose the plate and lettering colours and the font. The ones I saw were reasonably priced and there was a Liberty font I liked.

That sounds promising - can you post a link?

I found some nice oak ones here woodcutz.co.uk/oak-house-numbers (you can have the number painted in a colour) but I think oak might not stand out enough against brick. Slate with white lettering is another obvious classic choice, but somehow it's not floating my boat...

Don't put it in the fan light www.fanlightnumbers.co.uk/

No fanlight, so I couldn't anyway! Any particular reason to dislike fanlight numbers though?
