Bedside lights

I'm looking for some inspiration in buying a bedside light. We have a shelf above the bed and I want the light to sit in the middle, so not a wall light or one hanging from the ceiling.

I'm just stuck for ideas and Pinterest hasn't thrown anything up as ceiling lights appear to be very 'in' at the moment.

We have a fairly modern style bed and bedding. However we have just moved in and the decoration/curtains are fucking terrible not to my taste and we can't afford to do much about them just yet. I need something fairly modern and one that turns off from the base, not from a switch on the cord.

I'm hoping someone with a better eye for design can inspire me!

I would go for somethibg wuite large but flat - there are some oval base and oval shade ones, or rectangular ones around at the moment. BHS always has a goid budget conscious selection as does Homebase
