Which direction to lay floor tiles?

We are getting new flooring laid through the kitchen/diner/ hall and wc as per picture. The tiles are 60x90, and because of this we can't decide which direction to lay them - following the length of the longest wall at the back of the house widthways or left to right along the narrower wall, dp prefers option 2 I think it'll look too narrow and option 1 is best.
Any ideas of how to settle it?
