Hi, we have just moved into a brand new house and I'm struggling with how to make the kitchen seem more homely. We chose the colour scheme and are very happy with how everything looks, but it doesn't feel like a home yet. To the left of the kitchen are double doors opening to the garden with no curtains yet. Any advice on how to achieve a homely look or which colours to use on items like window dreasings would be most appreciated Smile Thanks

Once you've got your curtains and a blind at the window over the sink it'll look much more like a room than a space with units in.
Presumably you're going to eat in there too at the bit in front of the garden doors? so again if you have a table with a bowl of fruit, plant or small vase of flowers, that'll soften it a bit, or make it more stylish. You could also put a large print on the angled wall we can just see on the right.

What kind of colours appeal to you? what have you got in your living room?
Maybe find a print or poster first and then pick out a colour from that for your soft furnishings and a couple of things to put on the high shelves.

It's a lovely kitchen. Hope you're very happy in your new home.

I reported my above post because I'd installed a new app this morning and it added unwanted links to the text without my knowledge.

Panic.

I've uninstalled it now and can't see any links, so it should be ok, but if you can see any please don't follow them Blush

Thanks Enrique, we have a sepearate dining room so were thinking of a small glass table and a couple of chairs in the space in front of the doors. As for colours.. I have absolutely no idea where to start. Our whole house is the same ivory as the kitchen walls and has not yet got any permanent furniture or anything on the walls so nothing to work from.. I have never chosen colours for a house before and dont know where to start..We really are starting from scratch but the kitchen feels the least homely.

Oh right, quite a project then.
Can you start by getting yourself a Pinterest board and just grabbing photos of anything that takes your fancy. The more you look at them the more you refine what really appeals. Start by deciding on your sofa(s) for shape, material and colour, because they'll be most expensive and work out the position of them and your TV if you have one, then you can plan around them.

I usually say go for something quite neutral for the most costly items because it's easier and cheaper to change the accessories such as cushions, lamps, a rug etc.

It's hard to recommend without knowing if you want ultra modern, more traditional modern, by that I mean less stark, or something cosier.

This is a good site for inspiration at the bottom of the page
Wayfair I've never bought anything from them though, only looked for ideas.
Also Casafina which has different looks by style. You have to sign up to that, again, just to look.

There's useful advice about colour here
which will start you off and Dulex also have a tool for trying out colours in rooms on your computer or tablet Visualiser

Hope that helps Smile
