Where do you find inspiration for home decoration?

We're living in a new house and everything (apart from the flooring) is white. Including the woodwork.

I'm looking for some colour inspiration for all rooms, though I do have some ideas for the bedrooms. I just don't know where to look for ideas. I'd like to see pictures of rooms using colour, instead of just looking at colour palettes on paint websites.

What are the best places to look?

Also, I've been thinking about leaving the upstairs landing white (or using a different white but still keeping it plain) and painting the doors of the bedrooms instead; i.e. using colours on the doors. Is this a crazy idea?

I tried Pinterest but I'm apparently spectacularly rubbish at search terms because I'm getting nothing in my feed.

Thank you, looking at Houzz now. Will keep me busy!

The Farrow & Ball site is good too. Dulux used to have stuff like that.

To get stuff in your feed on Pinterest , you have to follow boards or Pinners that you like.

Yes, I know that. I've used it for a while for other boards. But for some reason I'm getting practically nothing through for the decorating topics etc I've followed.

If you just click the Home Decor topic then literally thousands of pin come up.

If you have like a favourite 'thing' like grey or print or bookcases search that in home decor. If you search 'wallpaper' in home decor gazillions come up

This time it gave me the option to follow the Décor board so I'm sorted on Pinterest now. Thanks.

I spend far too many hours on Pinterest.
I like home magazines too, the lower end ones as my budget is very much high street.

I am lover of Pinterest too it suggest other like minded ppl to follow too. Dh and I also go round new builds looking at layouts colour schemes often to see what not to do but gets us thinking.

Gene - I think you find that only the slightly obsessed have a board for each room . Some of us have boards for parts of rooms, such as Kitchen Cabinets or Bedroom Lighting Blush

I always go to //www.theroomedit.com I always find it has really different ideas from if you just go looking round high street shops and it tells you where to order the products from!

My advice ia don't rush it. Our sitting room has never been right since we did it 18mo ago. We are now changing the curtains and have finally committed to a rug.

Some things come with time.

We're going to get it done next year, hopefully before DC3 arrives. I've got beautiful curtains in the living room so I just need to find paint that goes with them.

The dining kitchen is the hardest, I think. Have no idea what to do in there.

Grin Photos here. It's one room but could be separated into two if we wanted. There's now a chest of drawers where the little cooker is.

I think the problem is that it's such a blank canvas and I don't know where to start. Do I want to use the same colour in both parts of the room? Do I want to use a mix of colours? It's a very sunny room but I suspect it could feel cold in winter (we've not lived there long enough yet to know).

I want to get one curtain for the patio door, and some kind of blind for the kitchen window. Have found a velvet-type curtain at John Lewis that would work. It's a deep red. It's only £40 so I might get it anyway, even if we go a completely different direction when we do decorate.

Ooooh thanks for posting these , very helpful

Your rooms are lovely , white, black and wood is an excellent basis for lots of different styles and colours . And won't date .

You mentioned window coverings . Do you need them for privacy - are the windows overlooked in the day? Or just at night to look cosy ?

Patio door - do you have space on both sides to put a longer curtain pole, so you can draw the curtains back clear of the window ? Or only on one side - is that why you want a single curtain?

I'm not sure about the practicality of velvet with a baby / toddler. Even a washable curtain . You can't keep up with the messy hands
