Sibling room sharing - boy/girl: closet and bed suggestions!

We are making the big move to get our kids into their own bedroom - dd is 4 and Ds is 1yr and 4mths.

We are thinking of either single bunk beds or a triple bunk bed (double at bottom and a single at the top). Dh likes the single bunk bed idea but I think it's more practical for a triple (guests visiting/siblings may like to sleep together while they're little/when they're I'll, I can sleep with them in their own room).

We have ruled out day beds/trundle beds as figured Ds probably won't be comfy as its for occasional use.

Would a triple bunk make the room feel small? Room measures approx 3m X 4m. We already have a large dark black Billy bookcase (2m high)& a chest of drawers. We are going the kids a wardrobe for hanging clothes and possibly a toy shelf/cupboard. Is this too much in a room ? What do people put in kids bedrooms?

Our kids bedroom functions as a playroom as well as sleeping area/chill out tea....so I think some clothes and toy storage is a must.

I think single bunks would be best if you want to keep some decent floor space. It also gives you more room as they get bigger and their clothes get bigger and need more storage!

Another problem with the triple bunks is the temptation to jump off the top bunk onto the bottom one. With singles (and especially because oth your kids are still very young) you have the option to separate the beds if such silliness prevails. triple or crossover bunks make the jumping more tempting and the triple bunks don't make it easy to separate them.

With singles, you do have the option of a trundle for that occasional use.

Oh gosh- I never thought about the jumping bit! Yes, I can definitely envision my oldest jumping cowabunga style onto the bottom bunk, with her little brother attempting to copy her!! Hmm, now definitely considering just single bunk beds... And a bonus for extra floor space too. :) thank you!!

How about single bunk beds with a trundle bed under for occasional use?
