Which first- gloss or emulsion?

Really boring question but hoping to decorate our bedroom this week while dh is away.
I am painting walls, skirting window frames, sills, built in wardrobe doors and the bedroom door and trim. Which is best order to do the room? Glossing the woodwork etc or do the walls?
I am spending Monday prepping doing filler etc, then hope to start painting.

Any experts out there with done tips?! Have painted before but our room is big so trying to super organised!!

I've always thought it was emulsion then gloss.

Ceiling, walls then woodwork.

Brill! Thanks. The ceiling has been done recently due to a leak so at least don't have to do that! I HATE painting ceilings!!

I thought you did all the glossing first and then the ceiling leaving the walls until last. However I do not claim to be a leading expert in matters of decorating Grin

I'm very far from an expert though, that's only what I've observed when dh has decorated. Also the chap that decorated two rooms for us.

I'm impressed you're doing it yourself. Good on you! Smile

Well it's more because I've been asking dh to do it all summer and he didn't get round to it! He's going to USA tonight for the week so I'm going to get it done while he is gone! He us better at painting as I usually redecorate on a whim and run out of time but this time have planned it all out so should be ok!

We've lived here for 7 years and haven't done anything in our room (except the ceiling out of necessity) so I'm hoping it all works out!!

Ceiling, walls then woodwork. If you are wallpapering, do woodwork first.

First day, prep walls etc, sand woodwork. Second day, first coat walls, then first coat woodwork while it's drying. Then second coat walls. Second coat woodwork day three. That's my system anyway! You can squeeze it into 2 days if you are using water based paint on woodwork as it dries much faster. I recommend Dulux Endurance paint (although you posted on Sunday so may have already finished!!)
