painted furniture - fresh or shabby types - are they already dated?

When I looked at these last year, they looked good and I thought that is what I am going to get for my new home and now I am wondering should I?

Some lines were getting discontinued on the stores and that made me think are they already getting dated? Shall I play safe and get solid oak?

I think shabby chic is beginning to look very dated. Painted furniture - I assume you mean painted in white or off-white - is classic I think?
