My window is 48" wide the track is 68" wide the curtain fabric is 54" wide.
Or my window is 122cm wide the track is 173cm wide and the fabric is 138cm wide.

Do i need 2x1 drop curtains or 2x1.5 drop curtains. I have enough fabric but don't want the window to look swamped as it is thick heavy fabric.

Sort of depends on what heading type you're using?

So the mid-point of the track is going to be at 34"?

I've generally gone for making each curtain 1.5 x the width of the area it needs to cover (as a minimum). This will give you curtains that appear to have a series of slight gathers in them when they are pulled across the window. If you want it to look "fuller" then go for 2 x the width of the area to be covered. Some people go for even more than that, but as you say, it can be quite an intense look and may not suit the room. If you go any less than 1.5, the curtains risk looking taut and flat when pulled across.

So for your example, each curtain would need to be 51" wide (for the x1.5 version) or 68" wide (for the x2 version). If you've got plenty of fabric and it's not a pain to pattern match, I would be inclined to try it out with your single width and see if you like it. If you do, hem and finish - and if not, you can add on the 0.5 width.

Thanks they are a heavy embroidered fabric in a small bedroom, i will just go with 1 drop, so that leaves me with 60" to play with, enough for my throw idea.

When i was in the shop i thought i had measured the window, but i had in fact measured the track, but the new track is longer, so i got confused
