Blinds advice please

We currently have (horrible, old) vertical blinds in all windows of our 70s home. I hate them and am very nervous about the cords around my young children.

I want to take them all down and just gave curtains but my only problem is he living room. It is right onto the street and North facing so we need as much light and privacy as possible.

What does everyone do to maintain privacy?

Also do you think it looks odd to have one room with a blind and the rest without?

Turning up for wisdom as well, we have a landing window literally 4ft away from neighbouring house and looking straight down their landing!! The house is empty atm but when new people move in next week I need it sorted!!
I am dithering Grin. I can't decide between blinds (roller, vertical or horizontal??) or what. Probably not voile as my loathing of "net curtains" (yy, I know they're not, but in my head!) is too ingrained. I've seen some nice cream blinds but think they might need loads of cleaning Hmm
Fwiw u don't think it looks odd to have something on one room and not on the others, but then I'm not a fan of the whole house matchy look so I would say that.

Thinking something like this. We have one on a tiny side window and it was a doddle to put up.

Thanks! I've been reading some old mumsnet threads and the luraflex plissé blinds look nice especially if you get the ones that open at the top, I'm thinking those may be a good option for us. By hey look similar to the picture you posted. They will be too expensive to go through the house but might be an option for just my living room.

Ooh I'm off to google that! The ones in the pic aren't expensive, though does depend on the size of the window obvs Grin the only thing making me think twice is whether they're dust magnets....in which case I'm heading back to look at roller blinds. Lots of houses round here have either roller or roman blinds and look nice from the outside. What size of window in your living room?

I think it's about 1.5 meters in width, I've not actually measured it yet!

This is another option that looks quite good;

What about plantation shutters?

You can get vertical blinds that use a twisty stick to open and close rather than a chord though.
