We have just had our kitchen replastered, we are sticking with the original units, that were in the house when we bought it, although not modern practical.

The units are a dark wood colour, the worktop is green, with black flecks (yes green)!! Cant really afford to change at the min, its not overally in your face green.

We have decided to have one row of black tiles, quite big chunky ones, and a grey floor, the walls are going to be an off white to brighten up.

I originally wanted black accessories, kettle, storage jars etc, but do you think this will be too much with dark tiles?

Think it might be - could be worth looking at brushed steel instead?

I always go for clear storage jars.

Colourwise, you get subtle natural colours that suit and soften any scheme.
Practically, you can see what is in them. So can others, hopefully maximising the risk that other people may help out and do some of the cooking.

Black kettle, toaster etc sound good.

At next kitchen revamp you could paint the cupboards.

Re brushed stainless steel, it is much easier than shiny stainless.

To be honest, yes, I think it's too dark. There isn't a lighter relief- dark brown, green, black, more black.

I would either have light tiles- White or cream or off green- or change the worktop. White worktop would go well and could probably be got very cheaply if you shopped around.

Three metres of white worktop can be bought for £50-60.

I wouldn't change worktop to white with dark cupboards and off white walls Work with what you have if its good quality There is a constant push from tv shows etc for light everything and it's not the only way. I am an interior designer and dark can be stylish too!

I think cream would look great with black/green.

Thanks, dont think we will change the worktops, as this is just a quick fix, totally new kitchen in a few years time.

This is it up to now, just painted walls today, new more modern cupboard handles need going on too.

I had been thinking of this kind of thing, but, having seen your worktop/units, agree with Noddy & Zinxie that something on a green tone would probably work better.

You could, possibly, if you found the right shade, use a pink or copper colour either.
