What's in the lounge already? I think a beautiful lamp, side table or cushions can make a real difference.

I've got nice lamps, a duresta sofa that the cats damaged, more pillows than you need (7, at the last count) & pretty side tables but it still needs something.

At least with kitchens you can just fit a quooker tap for instant "ooh" factor.

Fabulous lighting, curtains, a statement rug?

Chandelier. Fireplace. Picture rail. Original art. Custom curtains.

Oh yes, custom curtains make a huge difference - hand pleated headings and interlined, they look expensive (because they ARE expensive!). Original art is also a great idea! Nicely upholstered club chairs (stripes tend to look good) or wing-back arm chairs next to a fire. A small 'library' corner with a reading lamp and some old hardbacks looks good.

How about a footstool or a chaise lounge? Found this on decur.co.uk

I think symmetry, a lack of clutter and statement pieces make luxury. I have two really big oversized table lamps on either side of a consol unit. But nothing else on it - which I think looks great, but is clearly a matter of taste! Big oversized poof, mix and match duck feather cushions (duck feather cushions you sink into are just yum - I hate the feel of polyester filling, nothing comfortable about it!). And good curtains, that either exactly fit or are luxuriously pooled with weights on the floor.

I'm sure someone else will be along to say that the above is their idea of linda barker hell!!Grin

I have a beautiful Queen Anne chair - love it.

Throws, good quality cushions. Oversized cream lamp. Unusual mirror and old style clock.

But my style might not be for everyone.
