Matching curtains and lampshades

We are redecorating our living room and I am trying to decide whether or not to have matching curtains and lampshades or if this will look to matchy matchy?

It would be two ceiling shades and one set of curtains for the patio door. The other windows will have plain white venetian blinds. The walls will be neutral either white or light grey.

Thoughts please decorating gurus!

What is on the floor? Is that little square of pattern your curtain material?
Have your curtains or floor patterned, not both.
Have contrasting lamp shades. Cerise and grey go well together. Put two small matching curtain/ wallpaper cushions on the sofa/ chairs, and then a cerise throw on the back of one sofa. A couple of sparkly cerise cushions added to the sofa and then a couple of nice scented cerise candles. Grey, cerise and silver go well together.
You haven't really given me much to go on. You always start with the floor. Dark carpets always make things look smaller.
Very muted colours are in at the moment. All the pastels. Bright yellow is also on the way back.
Go to Ikea and look at their rooms. They are always on trend.

Thanks for the reply. Yes that is a picture of the material.

We will be getting a new carpet probably a light to mid grey shade.

Don't match your curtains and lampshades. It's too try-hard. You need complimentary items but not the same. I have that fabric in green in my kitchen!

Nah I wouldn't match them. It's a nice fabric for curtains but not lamp shades. And if you're getting a grey carpet it'll look too grey. Smile

A dusky pink plain silk or similar would be lovely with that fabric

The shade on Laura Ashley's Sorrento lighling range looks very similar to the background colour in your fabric.

If you want a matching shade just do it on a small table lamp. Its overkill and a bit bedroomy on the ceiling lights.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm sure you will all be pleased/relieved to hear I won't be going for matching! Grin
