How do you brighten up your plain walls?

Just that really. I have magnolia walls throughout, boring I know but easy to touch up having 4 dogs. I have no flair for accessorising and parts of home are blank and grim, particularly hall; stairs and landing. Please share your ideas and inspiration. Thanks
