Where to have curtains made to order?

I usually persuade my mum to make our curtains for us and she does a beautiful job, all double width and lined. However she's unwell long term and I need an alternative that doesn't involve me learning to sew! (I could do I guess but I'm crack handed and will never get aroun to it).

Any recommendations please? Really can't afford £££ and we do have a lot of windows!

Unfortunately, made to measure, lined curtains are expensive as they take a lot of fabric. You can cut costs by choosing a cheaper fabric per metre & going for a better value header type such as tab top or eyelet, these use less fabric than gathered header tape types (pencil pleat, goblet etc) which often need 1.5x double width of fabric per curtain to account for the gathering when the tape is pulled in.

Big stores like Dunelm & John Lewis will do made to measure. Lots of internet stores do mtm curtains too, I've used Graham Sanderson fabrics online before, a few times. They were great, though lead times are / were long. They aren't particularly cheap though.

There are lots of curtain makers offering their services on ebay, maybe try there? Obviously the only problem with that is that you don't get to see them or their product and are just going on ebay feedback.

Your best bet is probably looking in your local yellow pages/yell.com or similar for curtain makers and talking to them, inviting them round for a chat and getting a feel for their work and costs involved.

Agree with PP.

I have used John Lewis & Bentalls & Laura Ashley and would like to say Do Not Use Laura Ashley under any circumstances. Terrible work.

Right I won't be using LA then! No JL locally but there is Dunelm. I don't really like their fabrics though.

Thanks for the info. I'll give it all done thought.

Second Graham Sanderson Interiors - i had a roller blind made by them last year. Good range of fabrics and good customer service. Don't know about their curtain making skills, but the blind is very well made.
